5/6, 6/7, 7/8 ART HISTORY CUBES - 2016/17
All students created an art history cube which are currently on display in the entrance to school. Motivated by particular artists or by an image, students chose an artist to learn more about. Perhaps it was an artist they were familiar with or inspired by, or maybe it was an artist they wanted to learn more about. Re-creating a famous 2D art piece onto sections of a cube proved to be both challenging and taught students to "think out of the box". Some questions arose; "how do I line up the edges of the cube so the artwork matches up on each side?", Can I create more than one image from the artist that I chose?", "What medium would work best for my image?". All of these problem-solving questions were just that... creative problem solving while interpreting and creating. It was very interesting to see which artist each student chose, their approach, their challenges, their creativity and quality of craftsmanship. You have to see the display in person to appreciate the complexity and overall 3D quality to the work, but here are a few snapshots of the display for you to get a feel for it.
