6/7 Surrealism Self-portraits - 2016/17
Surrealism... a style of art and literature which developed in the 20th century by masters such as; Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp to name a few. These artists intentionally combined images from the subconscious mind and dream-like state, with un-related subjects and irrational images. Conscious thoughts, intentions and images juxtaposed with dream like images turned out to be challenging. We agreed it is somewhat like trying to explain our dreams. Often when we re-tell our dreams, they don't seem to make sense. After viewing examples by these artists, students began a self-portrait by incorporating mathematically based portrait drawing techniques. Drawing what we see rather than what we know is indeed challenging in itself. Surrealist qualities emerged after realistic images were complete. Take a look at the examples. In addition, the photographs will be on Artsonia.com for you to peruse and perhaps order your child's art on a variety of products offered through Artsonia. A portion of the proceeds come back to Eagle School in the form of funds for the Eagle art curriculum.
