Repousse is a french word, which means an image in relief created by pressing into the reverse side of a material such as aluminum. Chasing is the term for pressing into the front of the material. In combination, the surface then has a 3D quality. Black acrylic paint is painted on the surface prior to rubbing off which leaves definition in the areas of chasing.
