7/8 Printmaking - 2017/18
7/8 students created a double print using one piece of linoleum. The subject (positive space) was actually cut out of the plate and printed separately from the background (negative space). Beginning with their drawings, students transferred the image to a piece of rubber like material, like linoleum but much softer and safer to cut. A variety of linoleum carving tools were used to achieve a variety of lines. After carving the "linoleum" an "Artist's Proof" was made with printmaking ink. Once they approved of their design and the quality of their print, final prints were made. Some chose to use a couple different colors of ink to achieve an ombre effect. An added level of challenge was due to aligning the two prints on one paper.
