7/8 Impressionism & Expressionism Acrylic Paintings - 2017/18
What are the differences between Impressionism and Expressionism? Impressionist artists such as Claude Monet attempted to achieve an atmospheric appearance in their paintings. This was achieved by taking their canvases outside to capture a momentary, sensory effect of a scene. Characteristics of small, thin lines with visible brushstrokes was the emphasis. Expressionism, on the other hand, is characterized by elongated figures, jagged lines, exaggeration and vivid color. Artists such as Franz Marc did not try to capture reality, but instead painted subjective emotions and reactions to reality. 7/8 students chose from a variety of Impressionistic and Expressionistic reference images as inspiration for their acrylic paintings.
