6/7 Repousse' - Organic and Geometric Designs - 2018/19
The word Repousse’ is derived from the French word; “pousser”, which means to push forward. 6/7 students created a Repousse’ with either organic or geometric shapes and lines. The designs were drawn and pressed into a piece of aluminum, definition was added from the front by chasing or engraving. Adding black India ink to the surface and then allowing it to dry before burnishing enhanced the depth in the aluminum relief. Repousse’ is an ancient form of art that can be found in Early Greek and Roman art through today. It was used to decorate metal items, in jewelry and for weapons and armor. Students extended their designs to the paper frame with pastel pencils and scribble paint.
